Stadium Announcer with Goosebumps: Austria Defeats Cyprus 1–0

What an evening in Linz! Yesterday, I had the honor of serving once again as the stadium announcer at the Raiffeisen Arena for the FIFA European Qualifier between Austria and Cyprus – in front of a sold-out crowd. Even long before kickoff, it was clear: this was going to be a very special night of football.

About half an hour before the match began, when “I am from Austria” echoed through the stadium and thousands of red-white-red flags waved in rhythm, goosebumps filled the air. The entire arena vibrated with emotion and pride – a pure moment of passion and the perfect start to an unforgettable evening.

Pure Stadium Atmosphere and Red-White-Red Emotion

The match itself may not have been a football masterpiece, but it was all the more important. Marcel Sabitzer converted a penalty in the 54th minute to secure a 1–0 victory – keeping Austria undefeated in the ongoing World Cup qualification campaign. The atmosphere was electric, with the Linz crowd cheering the team on until the final whistle and creating an unforgettable backdrop.

For me personally, it was once again a truly special moment to stand on the field for the Austrian national team. For 15 years now, I’ve had the privilege of serving as the ÖFB’s stadium announcer – and every single match remains a great honor.
